Introducing The New 718 Boxster; Porsche’s First 4-Cylinder since the 968

To keep up with the worldwide trend of progressive fuel economy standards, Porsche has officially dropped the first four cylinder model in 20 years. The new flat-four uses the Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG), which is also used in the new 911 Turbo. The new 718 will come equipped with two trims, the standard being a 2.0L turbo boxer-four which develops 300hp. The 718 has a 13 percent bump in fuel economy over the previous six-cylinder, and comes equipped with 280 lb-ft of torque, a +74 gain over the old 2.7 flat six.0-60 will happen in a mere 4.7 seconds, 0.8 faster than the 2.7. Porsche has also claimed to re-tune the suspension and modify the chassis, specifically for the new engines.

The 718 Boxster S jumps to 2.5L turbocharged flat-four with 350hp and 310 lb-ft. 0-60 mph happens in just 4.2 seconds, 0.6 faster than the the 3.4L predecessor. Both the base and S model will come equipped with a standard 6-speed manual transmission and PDK as an option.

Porsche Active Suspension Management now features a 10mm reduction in ride height. Porsche claims a “10 percent more direct” electro-mechanical steering system in the new 718. The 718 Boxster will be at your dealership this June and start at $56,000 for the base, and $68,000 for the S model.
