Porsche 911 Speedster Debut
1,948 being built
Initially the Porsche 911 Speedster started off as a special one-off concept. Coming next year (2019) the Speedster will become a reality for a select few. According to insider reports, there will only be 1,948 911 Speedster’s being built. The naturally aspirated, flat-six will produce 500 horsepower. During the Paris Motor Show Porsche announced that the Porsche 911 Speedster concept will go into production. The 911 Speedster was first shown as a 70th anniversary concept made by Porsche itself. The 1,948 units being built represent the year that the company produced its first car.
The 911 Speedster will be available at the top of next year. This new generation of Speedster will be powered by it’s usual naturally aspirated flat-six. However this example will produce 500 horsepower. This model presented in Paris displays the much sought-after Guards Red paint code.
911 Cabrio underpinnings
The 911 Speedster is based on the 911 Cabriolet. However this will feature a double panel behind the front seats, instead of the usual soft-top. The fenders, hood and and rear panel are made of ultra-light weight carbon fiber. The chassis is shared with the 911 GT3. All models will feature a 6-speed manual transmission. The 911 Speedster will come with a set of 21 inch center-lock alloy wheels. Porsche has not yet released pricing for the Speedster. This model will be the first to be customized using the Porsche Heritage Series which includes paint and decal liveries of iconic Porsche racers.
