Tesla Global Vehicle Sales Reach 25,000, A 69% Increase, Beating 1st Q Estimates
Tesla sales have reached a new height, proving to us time and time again that they are a serious contender. In an official statement released by the company, they state that Tesla has delivered 25,000 new vehicles in the 1st quarter of 2017. This is a new quarterly record for the Palo Alto, California-based EV maker. This record reflects an increase of 69% over the 1st quarter of 2016. Tesla also states that this figure should be viewed as slightly conservative, adding “delivery count if it is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct. Final numbers could vary by up to 0.5%.” It is worth noting that this figure beats analyst estimates of 24,200. “It is all about the Model 3 right now, but this is very good news,” Ben Kallo, analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co., mentioned in an interview. Tesla goes on to say that they intend on delivering 50,000 vehicles by the end of the first half of 2017. The exact breakdown of which models were moved so far is as follows:
- 13,450 Model S sedans delivered
- 11,550 Model X Crossover
- Combined total of 24,515 were produced (Another quarterly record)
Of course this is phenomenal news for Tesla, especially since the Model 3 hasn’t even dropped yet. Model 3’s are to be delivered by this summer. Don’t forget that 300,000 anxious customers threw down the $1,000 deposit for a Model 3. We wont be surprised when Tesla’s year end sales and production numbers stun analysts expectations. From this point on, it is all about the Model 3 and the hype surrounding. Moreover, whether the Model 3 meets expectations in terms of quality, delivery deadlines, production numbers and, performance, of course.
Tesla, being the youngest publicly traded American automaker has yet to prove that it has the capacity to build cars in high volumes. Elon Musk says that Tesla is focused on pushing 500,000 cars next year, a very aggressive goal which is dependent on the battery-cell production in its Gigafactory east of Reno, Nevada. Tesla has yet to give a 2017 target for the full year.
